Review - Ludovico Einaudi – Divenire

My housemate introduced me to this chap, and he has been raving about him for some time. Last weekend, he was playing some of the man’s music on piano, and I was that impressed with it, that I thought I would ask to borrow one of the cd’s. It is not the usual thing I would listen to, but I am insanely eclectic, and will listen to anything if it is done well.

This is instrumental piano music at its finest, and the Italian maestro, has put together an excellent collection here of atmospheric and minimalist compositions. The imagery he creates using the piano alone, along with some minimal string accompaniment, is exceptional and the textures and the layers to this record are exquisite.

Divenire has beautiful music at every twist and turn, my personal favourite track being Primavera. It is hard to pick other standouts really, as everything on offer is of such a high standard. Listening to this album takes you to another place, and the ethereal atmospherics make this a great album to lay back and chill out to.

You could pick this up at any point in the album, and it would be a wonderful listen. Like with most things, it wouldn’t suit every mood, but at times you want something that is delicate, beautifully composed and relaxed, and this ticks all of those boxes and more.

It is a stunning body of work, and Einaudi can certainly play the piano in a wonderful fashion. I will definitely be looking to borrow the rest of his albums, and can’t wait to see what the rest of his music sounds like.

8/10
