Here is a review that I did for The Sentinel a few weeks back, which I have only just got around to uploading . . .
Miles Kane – Square One, Crewe – Monday 21 February 2011
Many will know Miles Kane as a member of The Last Shadow Puppets, (the side-project of Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys), and also as former frontman of The Rascals. Tonight he stepped out of the shadows of his famous bandmate, bringing his solo tour to Square One in Crewe . The venue was visibly rammed from the outset, and the sweat dripped off the walls in this intimate setting. Sound of Guns opened the night, and put in a sterling performance, undoubtedly gaining a few new fans along the way.
There is no doubt as to who the crowd were really here to see tonight though. Miles took to the stage and charmed the faithful with his indie rock anthems, backed up by his tight live band. It took until a few songs into the set though for the crowd to really get going, and new single "Come Closer", really made a strong impression, getting the front rows moving in unison. An inspired cover of the Beatle's "Hey Bulldog", signature tune "Inhaler", and further choice cuts from his first solo album (due out 25th April) came thick and fast, all receiving a great response from the crowd.
If guitar driven indie rock is your thing, then you would have been in your element tonight. It is likely that new single "Come Closer" will propel Miles out of the shadows (no pun intended) and into the mainstream, with daytime radio ready to pick up on this catchy, singalong anthem. For the assembled throng, it was an enjoyable evening, safe in the knowledge that nobody in attendance is ever likely to see Miles in such an intimate setting again.
