For some reason, today I remembered this video, and can’t believe that it has been so long since I last watched it. I really can’t believe that it is now five years old. I absolutely loved Rockstar Supernova when it was on. The basic gist was that Tommy Lee, Jason Newstead, Gilby Clarke and Dave Navarro were auditioning for a lead singer in the supergroup on the programme. The show was addictive viewing and introduced the world to talents such as Lukas Rossi (the eventual winner) and the brilliant Dilana Smith (who was the runner up).

However, it was this chap who had the performance of the series, in week 8 of the competition. The task was to pen an original song for the live shows, and Ryan Star, who was consistently referred to as the “Darkhorse”, set his stall out here, and emerged as a real contender. He didn’t win, but this was the stand out song of the series. He has since gone on to have release solo albums, but his album cut of this track is not as powerful as the live version.

This is the rugged, hard rock version, and will always be the best. Compelling viewing, and a hell of a vocal showing.
