American Idol – Week 5 – Results

After the shock of coming across the result of this weeks elimination by accident earlier this afternoon, I was intrigued to see what the hell happened on the results show this week, when it finally aired in the UK this evening.

Losing Pia Toscano was the biggest shock yet, and is outrageous, considering her brilliance thus far on the show. She has never been short of phenomenal, and has put in some unbelievable performances over the weeks.

She has been the most consistent since day one, and is clearly the entire package as a pop star, so why haven't people been voting for her?

Skipping over some truly dodgy performances from the contestants together (group song cringe),Iggy Pop (WTF?), and some guy from Idol Season 4 called Constantine Maroulis (who?), let’s get straight into the controversy.

Jacob, Stefano and Pia ended up in the bottom three, and she was the next contestant to leave the show, receiving the lowest number of votes. That sounds absolutely absurd to me considering she was one of the best this week, and has been the standout of the series thus far.

My money was on Casey to leave this week after a shaky performance, and out of the bottom three, I thought that Jacob or Stefano could have easily gone. I am also unsure as to how long both Haley and Lauren can remain in the competition together, as they are very similar vocally, and that could easily work against them in the coming weeks.

However, I thought Pia was safe as houses, and was well on her way to top end of this competition.

How wrong I was.

The announcement of her dismissal from the Idol ranks was met with deafening boos from the crowd, as well as dismay from the judges, clearly gutted and shocked to see someone of such prowess and devastating talent, come ninth.

The look on Ryan Seacrest's face here says it all, and he was once more forced to remind the public to vote for their favourites, otherwise, they get eliminated, much like Simon Cowell often has to do in the UK's X Factor.

To lose someone like Pia this early is just not right, and she was clearly distraught, as were her peers, although in terms of the competition, this is a good result for them, as the favourite has now gone.

She was the out and out odds-on favourite to win, and in my eyes, probably should have won. If she didn’t win, she certainly should have made it to the final, but to leave now, is an absolute travesty.

Conspiracy theories are already cropping up online as to what the hell happened this week, and I will be having a read of those with great interest shortly. Billboard seems to be going into overdrive, so it will be interesting to see what they have to say about this.

Absolutely gutted to see her go – what a talent.
