Download Festival 2011 – announcement

As promised, Download dropped their latest band announcement this morning, and rather than giving us 30 bands as expected, they chucked a crazy 43 new names our way.

Thanks Mr Copping, that is a cracking way in which to start a Friday.

So who was on it?

The 43 bands announcement were . . .

BioHazard, Young Guns, Skindred, Children of Bodom, Blitz Kids, Heights, Anti-Flag, T-34, D.R.U.G.S., letlive, Sevendust, Lower Than Atlantis, Deaf Havana, Dio Disciples, CKY, Boss Hoss, Dab Reedm Chthonic, Karma To Burn, Dear Superstar, Malefice, Yashin, Baptized in Blood, My Darkest Days, Sweet Savage, Royal Republic, Silverstein, Skeletal Damage, The Dangerous Summer, Wayne Static, The Rods, Ouston, Belligerence, The Dead Lay Waiting, The Morning After, Oaf, October File, Starseed, TRC, Envy of the State, Rock Sugar, Illuminatus and Kellermensch.
Pretty happy with that in all honesty, and it was particularly good to see D.R.U.G.S and letlive. on that announcement. Will definitely be going to see those if I can, and if they don’t clash with anyone else I want to see more. Some other great names in there as well, and Biohazard, Deaf Havana, Chthonic, Silverstein, Dio Disciples, Bodom, Young Guns, Skindred amongst a few others are all bands I would go and see.

The main concern though now appears to be clashes! There are that many bands on there that I would want to go and check out, and some will unfortunately have to go by the wayside!

Download have also released the day split information, with the latest poster looking like this.

Majorly concerned that Bring Me The Horizon could be clashing with Alter Bridge, Cheap Trick and Twisted Sister clashing with A7X and Black Veil Brides and GWAR clashing with that cracking main stage line-up.

I already have a major clash with Rob Zombie likely to win over the start of Linkin Parks headline set on main, but across the board, there could well be even more clashes by the time the line-up is completed. I still don’t know how people can complain about that killer lineup this year, and although Sonisphere is strong, so is Download.

Asking Alexandria turning up on the third stage could well be catastrophic too, as they were easily worth a high second stage slot. If they are indeed in a tent come June, it could be rammed. The organisers clearly need to rethink that one!

I for one am stoked for Download, the real start of the Summer, and it looks like this year will be just as awesome as previous years.

So many great bands, so little time!

Bring on the start of June!
