Radio One Big Weekend – 14 - 15th May 2011

Radio One today announced the line-up for the “Big Weekend”, with this years instalment being held at Carlisle Airport (?!) for some inherently strange reason.

Over the course of the weekend, tonnes of the biggest names in pop (and this year, rock) will descend on the north of the country for a free weekend of shits and giggles, amongst thousands of fans lucky enough to get hold of tickets. I tried to get them one year, but to no avail; the sheer demand always outweighs the number of the tickets available, purely on the basis of the concert being free.

This year, Dave Grohl and his Foo Fighters will headline the bill on Saturday 14th May, with The Black Eyed Peas, Tinie Tempah, Chase & Status, Plan B, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J, and Nicole Scherzinger making up the rest of the initial announcement for that day. I am sure that more acts will be announced in the coming weeks, with different stages onsite from what I remember from years gone by.

On Sunday 15th May, Lady Gaga will headline, backed up by the likes of My Chemical Romance, Bruno Mars, The Script, Katy B, Professor Green, The Wombats, Taio Cruz, and Olly Murs.

Other acts of note in the initial announcement include Panic! At The Disco, Pulled Apart By Horses, Devlin, Yasmin, and The Strokes (yawn!)

Looks to be solid line-up to start off, and should be a cracking weekend for all involved, and those who are lucky to get hold of the tickets in the frenzy that will undoubtedly ensue.
