Review – Cavalera Conspiracy – Blunt Force Trauma

The brothers Cavalera join forces once again for the follow up to their Cavalera Conspiracy debut Inflikted, Blunt Force Trauma. On first listen, it is an impressive beast as well, throwing down from the very moment you turn it on, and unrelenting aggression is the modus operandi from there on in.

With Max leading the line, and Iggor backing him up on an impressive showing on the drumkit, this is a groove laden heavy metal record that metalheads will instantly love. The thrash and doom influences are there as you would expect, and it is a lesson in sonic brutality from the outset, with some intricate guitar work and solos appearing early on, littered over the chaos.

Moving away from some of the more tribal infused tracks you would hear on Max’s day-job, although it is very similar in terms of the beaviness you would expect from a Soulfy release, this is something to enjoy independently, and this is a worthy and aggression soaked release to add to Max's impressive back catalogue.

There are some clear standouts in the likes of opener Warlord, Killing Inside, and I Speak Hate, and they will no doubt get floors moving in venues and at festivals alike.

Until we get the much needed Sepulture reunion, this will have to do, and by anyones standards, this is no second rate project in the slightest. Cavalera Conspiracy are truly a force to be reckoned with on this album, and Blunt Force Trauma is a lesson on crafting thunderously anthemic heavy metal, constructed around a tightly knit back bone, enforced by brotherly telepathy. They are back together after a nigh on 10 year stand off, and with 2008’s Inflikted, and this in their arsenal, they are clearly here for the duration, loving every minute of being back together on the stage, and in the studio.

A quality album.

8/10
