So, now that this year’s instalment is over, here’s my thoughts, taking into account everything I read online, and saw of the highlights on the BBC.
- All three headliners were a great choice. I may have skipped through some of U2 and Coldplay’s set, as they are not really my cup of tea, but what I did see I really enjoyed. They went down a storm (for the majority) and put in great shifts. Beyonce was also an inspired choice of Sunday night headliner, and having watched the majority of her set, she was brilliant.
- Fix You by Coldplay is just an incredible, incredible song
- “Surprise” sets by Pulp and Radiohead (two worthy headliners in their own right) seemed to attract MASSIVE crowds.
- Arctic Monkeys didn’t play a surprise set, as was expected, and Beyonce was not joined by either her husband Jay-Z or Destiny’s Child, which were too other potential surprises. Would have love to see her crack out some Crazy In Love with the “jiggerman” at her side. Early fireworks were pretty epic too.
- Tinie Tempah and Paul Simon – couldn’t be further apart in terms of style, but attracted two of the biggest crowds I have ever seen.
- Jessie J is a trooper – rocking her main stage set whilst sat on a throne, having busted her ankle at a previous show.
- Massively disappointed that the U2 coverage cut out right before they were due to play With Or Without You – my favourite song of theirs. Some trouble in the crowd also erupted due to some issue people have with them paying tax – don’t get no shit like that at Download you hippie kidz . . .
- U2 and Coldplay cemented the fact that they are still two bands I really want to see live, although I am not massive fans.
- Sadly, it seems that a conservative MP killed himself in a portaloo on the Sunday morning, which is pretty grim.
- With no disrespect intended to him, this early photo of the site is also pretty grim. Luckily for the punters, as predicted, Saturday and Sunday saw pretty good weather (and presumably the unexpected heat wave on the Sunday that Stoke saw!)
- Bouncy Knowles – the girl is FIERCE – never really bought into it before, but seeing her smash her headline closing set, I am left in no doubt now. Also forgot how many hits she (and Destiny’s Child) has (have).
- Two of her new tracks, Best Thing I Never Had and End Of Time sounded MASSIVE.
- FLAGS? Come on Eavis, follow suit with the rest of the festivals – they have NO place in the arena.
- Devlin doing runaway acoustically for the BBC at the end of Saturday was brilliant – shame there was no Yasmin though!
- Glaston - BERRY - Lol
- There is no Glastonbury next year, but I HAVE to be all over 2013’s edition. I have never been, and it is still something that I need to cross off my list.
