Review - Confined Within - Ashes Of A Fallen Kingdom

UK metalcore bands have always had it tough, competing in an over saturated market that has, for years, been dominated by American bands often peddling the same sound, only in a more polished form. However, with the debut full length from Stafford boys Confined Within, the UK now has a band who can really stand toe to toe with the finest bands in the genre.

Ashes Of A Fallen Kingdom is everything a genre diehard would want from a new release, with the vocal interchanges between the guttural screams and the soaring melodies executed brilliantly, alongside a fine backing track of some of the best drum and guitar work you will hear all year. Miles Away, An Underlying Past, and Memories Of You are awesome songs, but pretty much everything else in between is just as incredible, and equally on par. Demons in particular is outstanding, showcasing some of the most imaginative and intricate guitar playing around. In truth though, it is hard to pick highlights amongst tracks of such high quality.

As a record, it doesn't disappoint at any turn, with each tracks standing out on it's own merit, on this impeccably consistent release. Debut albums just don’t get any better than this.

Brimming with ideas, imagination, and some of the heaviest breakdowns around, this is an outstanding piece of work from the local boys. On the strength of this release, they deserve a shot at the big leagues. It is fast, it is furious, and it is damn near unstoppable.

You will struggle to find a better British metalcore record all year. Nothing is going to come close to this.

Stunning stuff.

10/10
