Review - One Direction - Up All Night

Despite coming third in the 2010 edition of the X Factor, there was never any doubt whatsoever that One Direction were onto something, and were about to become a very big deal in the process. Coming at just the right time, and being masterminded by head honcho Simon Cowell who put these boys together having auditioned as solo artists, he certainly knew what he was doing with these boys; they are, quite simply, unstoppable.

Up All Night is an outstanding debut as well, and is packed full of anthems that will see them packing out venues for a long time to come. Worshipped by the girls, the band have the chance to make their own slice of pop history, and to leave their mark on a scene that has seen it’s fair share of quality boybands over the years.

Debut single, and the bands first of many future number ones, What Makes You Beautiful opens up the record, and as introductions go, they don’t get much better; it’s the perfect fast paced pop number that couldn’t have been a better fit.

Across the album it is the uptempo moments that work best, with there being some massive pop moments here.

The title track is as infectious and catchy as they come (it WILL get lodged in your head instantly), whereas the likes of Tell Me A Lie, Everything About You and Stole My Heart are gloriously catchy pop tunes with huge beats behind them. Save You Tonight is also pretty big.

They also throw in their fair share of boyband ballads. Second single Gotta Be You may be a little limp, but there are some solid slower moments on here too, such as More Than This, One Thing and Same Mistakes.

Overall it is a very good debut, and hints at even greater things to come in the future from 5 boys with a MASSIVE future.

8/10
