Taking Back Sunday return

Taking Back Sunday released a long awaited track this past week, El Paso, which is going to be on their next album.

On first listen, it didn't really do a great deal for me in all honesty, and was nowhere near as instant and catchy as some of their "hits". Perhaps it may grow on me, but it was lacking in a lot of the things that made TBS such a great band to start with. It is a stark departure from their more accessible sound, as is so painfully devoid of a memorable and catchy chorus. Considering that the original line-up is back together, it seems strange that it sounds so different to that first record, which is a classic. For me it deviates too much away from what their fans would expect, and that patented and unmistakable TBS formula, although I anticipate that they would class this as maturing, as they get older. Either way, it can't hold a candle to some of their better moments from their back catalogue, especially on first listen. Only time will tell if this track grows on me, and if the album as a whole is a winner in its own right.

All in all, a little disappointed with this.

Rumours had been circulating that the album was going to be "self-titled". Having looked on their site though, it seems that the album title is going to be "tell all your new louder friends where they want to be again, now" which is a mash up of all four album titles that have gone before this fifth cut from the Long Island New Yorkers. It is due to drop on June 28th and I will be listening intently.

The album artwork has also been released on their site this week . . .
