Review - Kittie – I’ve Failed You

As far as I am aware, Kittie are the only all girl metal band doing the rounds at the moment, and although they have done some good stuff over the years, their latest record I’ve Failed You is a little bit dull from start to finish.

There are some huge riffs, as you would expect, and the death metal wails of singer Morgan Lander are on point as always, but the songs are just not good enough on the bands sixth full length to make any real lasting impression whatsoever. They are not bad takes on the death metal formula by any stretch of the imagination, but they are hardly world beating either.

The first handful of death metal soaked tracks are quite boring, and it is not until later in the album, on the likes of Already Dead and Never Come Home, where it improves somewhat. By then though, any interest in the record as a body of work has been lost.

You cannot fail to be impressed with the guitar work as usual, and vocally, the band are a unique proposition. What has let them down with this album though is the song writing. Better songs would have made for a more memorable record, which could have made an impression on the listener, but this is a pretty uninspiring listen from the outset. There are some bright points, but the lack of instant and memorable songs really sees I’ve Failed You left behind in a scene with plenty of new ideas and bands emerging doing this type of thing so much better.

As it stands, this one is fairly forgettable. The album artwork however, is outstanding.

3/10
