Review – letlive. – Stoke Sugarmill – Wednesday 31st August 2011

Fully justifying their billing as the most exciting band on the planet right now, letlive. completely rip apart the stage here tonight at the Sugarmill in a 45 minute set that blows the roof off the place from the moment they take to the stage and blows minds in equal measure.

Opening with Le Prologue, before ploughing straight into a powerful rendition of The Sick, Sick. 6.8 Billion, letlive. get the energy flowing early, with blistering renditions of the tracks from this years re-released Fake History album, which surely has to be in the running for album of the year come the end of 2011. The songs are delivered with blistering heart, and the crowd reciprocate every energy expensed by the band, going off as though they couldn’t be any more up for this show if they tried.

Lead singer Jason Aalon Butler is still one of the most mesmerising performers on the planet, a cacophony of violence, anger and pure aggression, as he screams his lungs out to deeply personal songs, acting like a man possessed for the duration of his time with the Stoke crowd.

He is a fireball of rage and he is a joy to watch as he climbs into the crowd, stage dives (halfway through the first song proper of the night) and ventures up onto the balcony to jump from greater heights later in the set, only to be caught by the devoted throng before him.

The man is an enigma, and sounds twisted and demented as he introduces Muther with a bile soaked spoken word intro about family life. He brings that torment to life in the song, and blows minds throughout the venue as the songs kicks into life. Renegade 86’ is another massive moment, but throughout, each song is met by a fantastic reaction from the crowd, just going to show just how much they are thought of in these parts.

A closing encore of H.Ledger and Casino Columbus sees the stage diving go through the roof as the fans become one with the band, and invade the stage. That unification with their audience is what will set them apart in the long run, and give them the most successful of futures going forward. The fact that they are one of the most exhilarating live experiences around will also do them no harm.

Something very special is happening for this band over here at the moment, something acknowledged by Butler as he thanks the crowd for their support, claiming they are more loved over in these parts, than they are in their homeland. Get on board now, as you won’t want to miss this incredible journey. Exciting times are head for letlive. and by this time next year, you wouldn’t bet against them being the biggest hardcore band in the world.

Roll on their supporting slot here in this same venue in October with Your Demise.

That show will be simply UNMISSABLE.

Live music doesn’t get much more thrilling than this.

Unbelievable stuff.
