Review - Kasabian - Velociraptor!
Touted as heirs apparent to the vacated Oasis throne, Kasabian have gone from strength to strength as band over the years, turning themselves into genuine arena fillers, and a festival headline act along the way. But does the music measure up?
Arguably not.
I am not their biggest fan in all honesty, and although there are a couple of tunes I have liked over the years, a lot of their music quite simply doesn't do a great deal for me. Velociraptor! is no different. Just because Kasabian peddle Indie rock music, doesn't mean that it has to be sleepy, indulgent, boring and quite frankly, devoid of memorable and anthemic refrains. When it comes to Indie, The Killers are easily a cut above the competition, and although Kasabian are considered by many to be atop the pile of current contenders, this is just an embarrassingly dull album from start to finish. Lead single Days Are Forgotten is pretty much the only thing remotely interesting here, and that is below par in comparison to some of their earlier work. The rest of the album at times had me pressing for the fast forward button. I was bored.
A track entitled Switchblade Smiles should be entirely more captivating and menacing than it is, and across its 11 tracks, there is nothing here to justify the hype. It seems the likes of Acid Turkish Bath and I Hear Voices have been recorded while off their face on the drugs of choice, and listening to the tracks, this becomes blatantly apparent. You can simply not record this sober, and think it is anything other than garbage. The title track tries, but ultimately fails, to bring everything else around it out of the mire.
What's The Story? (Morning Glory) this is not.
Gallaghers - please come back; all is forgiven.
1/10 - appalling.
