Review - Joe McElderry - Classic Christmas
Following on from his outstanding Classic album released earlier in the year (a huge record), Classic Christmas sees Joe McElderry put his take on classic Christmas songs and carols with that voice of his. Much akin to Buble's similar recent release, the likes of White Christmas, When A Child Is Born and Mary's Boy Child are all staples of the season, and his versions are very enjoyable.
The highlight comes in the form of the dual language take on O Come All Ye Faithful, where Joe is really in his element and in a comfort zone like no other.
Classic Christmas is a solid album which works well with the Christmas season, and is immensely easy listening. It isn't meant to be a storming record, but is designed to be an accompaniment to classic festive cheer, and an alternative to the usual takes on the carols we hear year in and year out.
With that in mind, he has done a fantastic job, but it is certainly not in the league of his earlier record Classic (easily one of the best albums of the entire year), and of course only has limited appeal around the seasonal Christmas market.
For what it is though, it is very enjoyable release.
6.5/10
