There is something about Skacoustic that makes you think that Reel Big Fish songs done in an acoustic manner shouldn't work, but the reality is that the songs are just that good, that they really do lend themselves to the acoustic reworkings that can be found here.
It really shows off the genius of the songwriting in great fashion, and anthemic Fish numbers like Sell Out, Beer, Take On Me and She Has A Girlfriend Now take on new leases of life when performed with acoustic guitars.
Where Have You Been and Don't Start a Band are two of the other numerous highlights on Skacoustic, the only downside really being that S.R. is not in the extended form it often takes (particularly in the live setting) and that towards the end of the record, it tends to tail off with a lot of the big hitting Fish tunes coming early on. There are also a few songs notable by their absence, but to gripe about Skacoustic, is to miss the point of the collection entirely.
It is a fun collecton of Reel Big Fish numbers, and is a very entertaining listen.
7/10
