As something of a taster for their upcoming sophomore
release The Strange Case Of . . . the awesome Halestorm return with a four
track EP, giving us a teaser of what to expect from their new album.
Expectations are high following a brilliant debut record, and Hello, It’s Mz
Hyde points at something very special to come indeed.
The opening track Love Bites (So Do I) is an incredible
number to start proceedings, which sees the powerhouse vocalist Lzzy Hale rip
it up around a behemoth of a rock track. A huge chorus, a dominant vocal and
massive solo all combine with a brilliant hook, and some fantastic guitar work,
to suggest that The Strange Case Of . . . could well see all their potential
fulfilled as soon as album two.
Daughters of Darkness and The Rock Show follow, and are
another two huge numbers, which possess mighty choruses, memorable and anthemic
refrains, and show once more the full power of the Halestorm arsenal in all its
glory.
By the time the closing Here’s To Us, you realize just how
special a band this is.
The track is an enormo-rock power ballad, which shows just
how good the band are at penning phenomenal songs. It hits hard, and is a very
special moment, the band moving into unashamedly 80’s territory with a number
that could stand toe to toe with some of the finest rock ballads ever written.
The Strange Case Of . . . is going to be a brilliant record –
the signs all point to it being one of the albums of the year.
Quite simply, I cannot wait for the full length.
