Having transcended the Indie pop genre, to become a genuine bona fide arena
bothering act, the sophomore cut from Florence & The Machine doesn't so
much back up the considerable unpwards trajectory that the band have enjoyed in
recent time.
THe lead siren Florence Welch may still be a star, in spite of her downbeat and frail interview personality, but when she opens her mouth, something very magical indeed happens. The problem with Ceremonials is that the songs are on the whole somewhat formulaic and verging on the dull at any given moment.
There are some bright spots for sure, with the two singles Shake It Out and Never Let Me Go easily two of the three tracks this album is worth bothering about, including the penultimate track , All This and Heaven Too.
Aside from these gems, the rest is forgettable, and not at all life affirming as it should be for such a grandiose proposition.
The three highlights are all in their own way, epic, and it is a shame that the rest doesn't match the high standard these tracks set.
With a powerhouse voice as hers, it really needed better songs to match the promise. It won't at all stop their progression to the big leagues, but it is not as massive as the Indie world would have you believe.
