After watching Taylor Swift in Birmingham the other night, I had a bit of a brainwave, as crazy as it may sound.
She had a really tight backing band and sounded awesome, but how good would it be to team her up with a pop punk band, perhaps All Time Low, or even Yellowcard, for some alternative, and heavier versions of some of her tracks with added crunch?
Take All Time Low for starters; adding their sheer pop punk power and party boy attitude to tracks such as The Story Of Us and Better Than Revenge would be quality, and would add further ooomph to two already brilliant songs. I bet there could be further inspired collaborations, perhaps even getting Taylor to do a turn on a couple of ATL numbers. I would love to hear her adding some of her country-pop vocal stylings to Break Your Little Heart, and ATL would bring some extra edge to some of Taylor’s songs and could add a different and interesting twist to them. Not that the songs from either act need bettering, as that would be pretty much impossible anyway. It would just be a really cool experiment of styles more than anything, as they would never be able to replace the original versions, but it would be a sure-fire hit.
That got me thinking further, and led me to come up with the most ingenious collaboration. Teaming Taylor Swift with Yellowcard would be epic, as Sean Mackin’s distinctive violin fiddling would fit right in with Taylor’s music, herself utilising the fiddle on a number of her tracks. Adding some pop punk edge, driving guitars, and frantic electric violin would be a crazy twist, and an awesome alternative to some phenomenal songs. Hearing Taylor sing all over the likes of Ocean Avenue, Breathing, and For You And Your Denial would also be insane!
I would love to see an EP of stuff like this, and some live shows as well would be incredible. It makes perfect sense, as it would go so well hand in hand together. Neither ATL, Taylor Swift,
or Yellowcard need one another at all, as they are all immensely successful in their own right, but still, it would be out of this world if something like this happened. We know that Taylor isn’t averse to working with a pop-punk bad too, considering her turn with Boys Like Girls on “Two Is Better Than One” on their Love Drunk album, and whose to say she couldn’t be tempted again!
The possibilities would be endless as well. Whether it was Taylor Swift’s songs with the added extra of ATL or Yellowcard, or vice versa, the combination would just work, and would be unmissable.
Somebody needs to make this happen.
