I read an article recently that said that the nation’s darling Cheryl Coles is priming her debut release in the States, with a little help from her close friend Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas fame. He is apparently tinkering with her album Messy Little Raindrops to get it just right for the American audience, and make it more accessible, with it being such a notoriously difficult market to crack.
If anyone can break the States though, it has got be Ms Cole. She is an icon in this country, and is held in such high regard by the likes of Simon Cowell, whose acquaintance will no doubt give her the added push she may need across the pond. The Yanks love Cowell, and Cowell loves Cheryl, and therefore she has friends in all the right places to hopefully see her right in this difficult market. Her friendship with Will.I.Am will also not do her any harm, with BEP simply being THE biggest pop band on the planet right about now, recently wowing millions at the Superbowl half time show.
She could still play a role in the US version of The X Factor, when it launches later in the year, whether or not she is enlisted as a judge on the panel. I would love to see her on the panel, but I know there are fears about the Yanks understanding the Geordie accent. She would still go down a storm though I think, and should be given a chance.
Will be interesting to see how she fares, as a successful solo career in the States would take her to worldwide levels of fame, much like Rihanna, Gaga and Katy Perry. There has also never been a better time for Brits to attempt to crack the market over there, with the success of Adele and the like as of late.
