Warped Tour 2011

Warped Tour

Monday 28th March

The organisers of Warped Tour, the travelling punk rock circus in the States have announced its main stage line-up today, and the bands making the trek this summer are looking pretty impressive thus far. The Warped line-up already had some killer acts announced for it, and this latest batch of names has only gone and added to the excellent line-up.

As part of my 21st birthday celebrations in 2007, I was fortunate to go to Warped Tour in Mountain View, California, for what was, without a doubt, one of the best days of my entire life. The anticipation for a Brit hitting up such a renowned and famous rock festival in America was just sky-high, and the show was just out of this world, and completely unforgettable. That experience has lived with me ever since, and I watch with great interest as the line-up gets announced every year.

Each year there is something for everybody on the bill, with so many stages and bands to cater for absolute everyone in the scene.

Mountain View in 2007 was a special day, and one day, I am absolutely determined to make my return to Warped Tour. Everything about it was just incredible. The merch stalls area, where bands were just walking around freely, the cheap merchandise ($5 for a Haste The Day shirt), the brilliant line-up and the awesome sets (Escape The Fate w/Ronnie Radke, Paramore, Killswitch, FFAF, Haste The Day, I am Ghost, NFG, Yellowcard, Red Jumpsuit, just to name a few), free programmes, insane crowd surfing and back busting on car park gravel, water slides, Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream, and searing 40 degree heat, with not a cloud in the sky.

It was a perfect day, and Warped Tour is the heartbeat of the American punk rock scene

Today’s announcement of further bands has clearly gone down a storm too.

First out of the hat were Paramore, who will (surely?) be at the top end of the bill, considering their ascent to superstardom of the last couple of years. How they will fare without the Farro bros will be interesting to see, but they will definitely go down a storm, especially considering the amount of genuine “hits” they now have under their belt.

Misery Business on that gravel car-park will be unmissable, and they will go down a storm in the sunshine.

Also announced were A Day To Remember, who will possess one of the most brutal sets of the entire tour, and will slay whatever crowd they are put before as a matter of course these days. With What Separates Me From You doing incredibly well, they will bring out the hits, and have the whole crowd getting into it, singing along, and slam dancing in the pit.
Brit metalcore/electro trail blazers Asking Alexandria will also be on the bill, and considering their huge fanbase in the States, they will not only go down a storm, but could well be the highlight of the entire showcase.

Every year there seems to be a band with a huge buzz around them playing the Warped Tour, and they are often British. In 2007 it was Gallows, last year it was Bring Me The Horizon, and this year, it is likely to be Asking Alexandria. Still yet to blow up huge over here (it’s coming, believe me) they will garner a huge crowd, and a devoted fanbase will be out in force. They will undobtedly lay waste to the main stage, and only further their growing reputation in the process.

Hearing the likes of The Final Episode (Let's Change The Channel) in searing heat would be brilliant, and the pits would be brutal for it as well.

Also on main are D.R.U.G.S who will be bringing the party, and that phenomenal debut record to the stage, along with The Devil Wears Prada, August Burns Red, Attack! Attack! (crabcore lolz?!?!), and Gym Class Heroes (recently reunited?), along with the likes of Enter Shikari, Black Veil Brides, There For Tomorrow, Madina Lake, Set Your Goals, and A Skylit Drive.

Looks pretty awesome to me.

Alongside all of those bands though are these, making stops along the way, some playing the whole tour, and some doing select shows . . . Every Avenue, Eyes Set To Kill, Family Force 5, Reliant K, Simple Plan, 3OH!3, Less Than Jake, MC Lars, and with the rumour of All Time Low joining the run, this years Warped Tour looks like it will be a good one.

One day Warped . . . I will be back . . .
