Review - Olly Murs – In Case You Didn’t Know
After coming second on the 2009 edition of the X Factor, Olly Murs has seen his career go from strength to strength. His cheeky chappy personality led to his recruitment on this year’s Xtra Factor show on ITV2, but making music is his day job, and his day job he does very well.
This is a very good pop album which is distinctively Olly Murs in style and in sound, and could not be a better representation of where he is currently at as an artist.
Lead single Heart Skips A Beat, his second UK number one, comes up first, before Oh My Goodness follows on into his third number one success, the incredible Dance With Me Tonight. As soon as that track kicks in you cannot help but fall in love with it, and as I have always said, it is the most perfect song for him. Full of swing, soul and an infectious pop hook and chorus, the song was made for him, and it is a big moment on this record.
Elsewhere, the standard is high throughout, but there are two massive highlights later in the pack when the title track and Tell The World take hold. The former is one of the best tracks the guy has leant a hand to, and the vocal lead is unforgettable. It is probably the most memorable and infectious of all the tracks here, along with Dance With Me Tonight.
It is perhaps not the out and out hit fest he could be capable of, but there are plenty of easy listening pop tunes here to get your teeth into and to enjoy, and he will do well with this set.
There is no danger of him being dropped by Cowell, with this album going straight in at number one on the album charts, as per his singles. He is going to be around for a long time.
