Review - Seether - Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray

Holding Onto Strings Better Left To Fray, the fifth studio album by Seether is business as usual for the band, once more peddling anthemic rocked up grunge to the masses, where their profile is pretty sizeable, particular across the Pond.

It’s a pretty standard Seether record too; reliable, listenable, and a solid record, if not enough to be truly groundbreaking.

The cut is held together by two enormous songs in Here and Now and Tonight, which are by far the most instant and anthemic of the bunch, and the obvious highlights of a record that is enjoyable throughout.

It’s not particularly game changing for them as a band – I don’t think it’s even the best set they have released to date - but it’s good enough to keep their fan base happy, and to keep their profile ticking over.

There’s a little filler in places, but on the whole it’s a decent enough listen, even if for the first part of the album Shaun Morgan’s vocal sounds strangely unfamiliar.

He starts to sound more of his old self as the album goes on, and throughout, you can’t deny it’s an enjoyable record with reliable songcraft from start to finish.

6/10
