Review - States - Room To Run
Admittedly fairly underwhelmed by their generally forgettable EP, Line Em Up, it was refreshing to hear some significant improvement on States first full length, Room To Run.
A marked improvement of the songcraft, and a set of better songs really sees this album become quite enjoyable in places, with Mindy White's voice working well over engaging arrangements and instant melodies.
Time Bomb rides a wave of distortion and electronica, as the band veer into almost experimental and unchartered territory, whilst Right Or Not rocks out to a catchy distorted guitar riff that works well.
Generation makes a welcome return from the EP (it was the stand out after all) and the likes of Captivating Me, Verses The Mirror and the closing Follow It Home show a band that seem to have really found their groove.
At times, it is still a little rough around the edges, but this release shows a lot more promise than their earlier work, and shows them moving in the right direction.
6.5/10
