Review - Yellowcard - When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes (Acoustic)

When you release an another as killer as Yellowcard's return to the scene, When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes (which reintroduced them in some style earlier in the year) electing to put that entire album out in acoustic format could really leave the song writing open to severe scrutiny.

Would they work stripped back, played out over acoustic guitars and violins, without all that pop punk fury that made that record such a quintessential release?

The answer, in short, is a solid, resounding yes!

When an album is as fantastically constructed as this one is, an acoustic rehash really lets the beauty of the songwriting shine through, exposing the sheer talents of the band who created these hits so perfectly.

WYTTSY in an acoustic form is a beautiful representation of the intricacies of the melodies, harmonies, and the sheer brilliance of the song craft. That the pop punk bursts are taken away does nothing to dampen the mood of this record. In fact, this is the perfect accompaniment, and is a joy to listen to, showing the light and shade of the musicianship, and the lyrical content.

It is simply impossible to pick a highlight; each track represented to the highest of quality, providing a delightful alternative to the electric version.

This, much likes its playful alter ego is honest, sincere, and wholly stripped back. It is another outstanding release.

Flawless.

10/10
